Question : Remote Control a PC without the user knowing
|
|
Ok, we have a rather annoying laptop user who gives us the run around whenever we ask him to come into the office and have anything done to his laptop.
He always has an excuse, but the thing is we know for a fact that he does enter the office every now and again and connect up his laptop, so my question is, when he does so is there anyway we can remotely control it (i.e install programs, run a software audit etc.) without him knowing, even if he is sat in front of the thing using it?
We've had so many problems with this guy that i'm fed up with the constant bickering that goes backwards and forwards everytime I want to do something, like install a service pack. I don't want to have to get managers involved every single time - its way too much hassle. So I thought it would be great if I could do what I need to do without him even knowing i'm doing it!
A few details about the laptop and our network:
O/S: Windows XP SP2 Connected via CAT5 (we have an office for remote users to use when they are in the office)
Usually remotely connecting using Win XP Remote Desktop, but if I use this he will know i'm doing something and promptly stop me from doing it (and cause a scene no doubt!)
Any sugestions will be appreciated! Or perhaps its just wishful thinking.

Not sure this is something we would normally comment upon. My suggestion would be to escalate the issue up your management chain and agree that you will either block this user's account or take other appropriate actions to block his access. Installing software surreptitiously in this manner is not normally a requirement for a standard organisation.
