Question : How can I map existing SharePoint databases  to a new installation

Hi,

I am trying to rebuild SharePoint on a XP Professional Desktop with Server 2003 and SQL 2000 running on Virtual PC.

Can you tell me the exact procedure to migrate and "map" the existing Sharepoint databases to the new installation.
Can the batabases be accessed from a external hard drive?

Answer : How can I map existing SharePoint databases  to a new installation

The databases cannot be accessed or attached from an external hard drive unless they are SCSI attached.  They have to be on a permanent connection like an internal hard drive or SAN or iSCSI, etc.

Mapping the Content DB is just adding a content database that has been attached in SQL and in Sharepoints Admin and that site will reappear on the new server.
