A T1 line isn't "faster" than the other consumer products you mentioned, but it does provide consistent, uninhibited connection at full speed over a dedicated line with dedicated end points. There is a higher focus on uptime and guaranteeing full speed with a T1 and they don't come with the contract limitation of consumer connections such as comcast's monthly bandwidth limit or packetshaping.
