I have a Windows 2000 server that has been running for several years, up to date on Service Packs and patches. Now it appears that the Windows Installer is not functioning. If the Windows Installer service is told to start it responds "Error 1053" this service could not start in a timely fashion.
I have reinstalled Windows Installer, Reregistered Windows Installer, nothing changes. I would prefer not to rebuild this system but I believe it to be a registry problem, any suggestions?
