Question : Finding last logout time
|
|
I was wondering if there is a way to find out the last time a user logged out of a Novell 4.11 server? I don't know if it matters or not but accounting is not installed on this server.

Ah...here's another one where the answer may be suspected but hoped otherwise!
Unless you use accounting (or other arrangements as napp mentioned), NW preserves only the last logIN time. As you probably know, you can view this through NWAdmin->UserID->Details->Login Restrictions->Last Login Time or at a DOS prompt using NLIST User=userid.context show "last login time"
[Syntax courtesy of Novell Tech Info Doc (TID) 2935680]
If you really needed evidence that a particular user was still logged in at a particular time, you might look at timestamps on any email messages sent or opened (some systems like GroupWise track when a message is opened), at the last modified date/time of files in their private directory, or at the creation date of any file owned by that user.
Hope that helps! And for next time, there's always accounting, presuming the server can handle a modest additional workload.
Peace^^Paul
