Question : Setup Wireless Network
|
|
Hi I must set up a wireless network. From the location where it's going to be set up, it must have a radius / signal strength of 14km (kilometer). If users are anywhere in the range they should be able to pickm up the signal. It wont be used for Internet access at the moment. Only for Lan. What hardware do i need? What security software do I need since we dont want anybody to come and use our services, security should be tight. What software do i need to manage logons ( I must also be able to cut off clients)? Please tell me how to setup this whole system? The server is a windows XP Pro system I would also like to enable LAN email. I have Merak mail server. Pleasde help in setting it up as well.
Thanks

I've not heard of any single device that can handle that. You would need dozens if not hundreds of wifi access points. You would essentially be creating a very large mesh network - http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid7_gci870763,00.html

Do a google search for wireless mesh. But a 14 km radius is VERY large and is going to be costly to implement and maintain.
