Question : networking two computers through hub win98 and win2000

both these computers has nic cards and there is a 5 port hub connected to my cable modem i cant get access to the computers in my network places when i double click the other computer in it a error message pops up saying that its the wrong path for the other computer. Im pretty sure its not the connections because it was working before i reformated the win2000 computer so im pretty sure its the software on the win2000 computer but im not that good with the settings on 2000 so can soneone help me.
