Question : Ethernet card has no physical address ?

I am trying to get connected to the net via an onboard ethernet card. ( SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adap
ter) It did work within last 2 months. The cable modem works via USB. TO get a network up and running I need it to work via Ethernet.
I have tried removing the driver and reinstalling it.
XP detects when the ethernet cable is unplugged, or if the device on the other end loses power.

I think i have isolated the problem, but have no idea how to solve it.
