Question : Speedstream 5100 ADSL modem
I had DSL service with MCI, and they supplied an MCI branded Speedstream 5100 modem (it worked fine from the start). However, after a year or more, I have changed ISPs and am now with Bellsouth. I hook this modem up and get green LEDs for power, Ethernet, DSL, and occasionally on the activity LED, but no go getting on the Internet. I pressed the reset button on the bottom of the modem which caused it to start giving out an IP (192.168.158.2) to my PC (although I do want to connect it into my D-Link router - tried it too, setting up my login info in the PPPoE config). I tried to pull up the modem via my browser (192.168.158.1) but "page not displayed" appears. I tried to telnet into it, but it gives a login: prompt. I tried several usernames and passwords with no success. BellSouth's installation guide states that modem must be set to VPI/VCI = 8/35 and a 1483 driver set for PPPoE. I assume I will need to configure this modem as such and that is why I am failing to connect through it. I will probably try call Siemens tech support (now supports Efficient Networks products), but thought I would give EE a try. The part# listed on the bottom of the modem is 060-E141-A0S. This unit has 4 LEDs on the front. I think I need to telnet into it (so I need to know the username and password) and issue the CLI commands to configure it according to BellSouth's specs (need to know the CLI commands too).
Thanks for your help,
Kevin
