Question : auto detect vs half duplex vs full duplex???

hi Experts I have a file server in a workgroup with a 1 Gbps NIC CARD. When i go to the properties for the card it says its setup as autodetect...but there are many other options like full duplex, half duplex, autonegotiate 1000 mbps?? I was wondering is autodetect the best setting to provide my users with the fastest file open access to the server??...im asking this because when we open a drawing off the server share it takes 45 seconds... but if we open that file off the client computers hard dirve (locally) it takes only 15 seconds. So im guessing maybe i should change that setting to improve file opening speed?..server is windows 2000, client machines are XP PRO..thanks experts

Yeah by "hard setting" I just mean configuring the NIC/port with something other than auto-negotiate.
