Question : Leviton QuickPort Jacks 568a or 568b?

I'm installing a new jack in the network in my home/office and am confused over which portion of the Leviton instructions to use for their Quick Port Jacks.  They say to use the 568a wiring for Home use and 568b wiring for Commercial.  Mine's both!  (Pretty substantial office in the home with switches, Active Directory, multiple servers, etc.)  (I know, I should have one of my network guys do this, but they're not available and I enjoy learning and doing some of these.)

Does it matter whether I use the a or b configuration?

Also, I'm assuming that I my connector on the other end of the cable (at the switch) should have an RJ45 connector with the exact same wiring configuration as the Jack in question.  Please confirm that this is accurate.

Lastly, does it matter that neither of these (Leviton 568a or 568b) lines up exactly with what I've seen for RJ45 connector layouts on 10/100/1000 cabling?

Please give me a little explanation and any useful links if you have any handy.

Thanks.

There are two competing standards, but B is much more prevalent and is what I would recommend. Yes, both the wall port and the patch panel have to be the same.

Not sure what you've seen, but 10/100/1000 = CAT5 = TIA/EIA 568A/568B
There are extra grades of cable - cat5e, cat6 but the wiring color codes and termination are the same.
