I have a laptop with Vista Business 64, and I connect with my cell phone on a Verizon EVDO Rev A network with a Blackberry 8130 Pearl. I'm running a VNC support application on this machine so I can (theoretically) support my clients wherever I go. The application is running fine, locally, but nothing can get to it, and I found that lots of network related items are not quite right.
To maintain an address, I use a dynamic DNS service which is working great. If I go to any other computer and try to ping this Vista box by hostname, it resolves to the most current IP, but with 100% loss / complete timeout.
If I try to ping it from itself whether via hostname or the external IP, it works fine. For the application and trying telnet on the port, same thing: it works locally to verify that things are in fact up and running, but nothing external can see these.
I have tried disabling completely the Windows firewall, and also disabled avast! professional 4.8. I have also disabled IPv6.
No idea what is left for me to try.
As a note, I did disable some services as per here: http://www.tweakhound.com/vista/tweakguide/page_8.htm based on "desktop networked and sharing", although a few that the page has set to disabled i still have enabled, but more or less, that's my configuration. Perhaps a vital service is disabled? Everything i have left seems unrelated.
Ideas?
