Yes... as shown in the article, 802.11a and 802.11g are about 5x as fast as 802.11b.
Draft 11n is nominally 2x as fast as 11a or 11g, and up to 4x as fast if wide channels are used... some (Apple, Cisco, Intel, et al) do not support wide channels in the 2.4GHz band, since that would use 2 out of the 3 available channels in the 11b/11g frequencies. So to get full speeds from mdraft 11n when Apple/Cisco/Intel equipment is involved requires using the 5GHz band, which has 12 or more channels (providing 6 or more double-wide channels).
Still, even without wide channels, 802.11 draft n in the 2.4GHz band should be up to 10x faster than you are getting now, no matter what manufacturer makes the draft-n cards and router/AP.
