Question : 2 DSL Line on one Network
|
|
Hi. Is it possible to "actively use" two separate DSL lines on one LAN with an Exchange Server? To clarify, we now have one DSL modem, one firewall & one network switch with 6 computers connected to the LAN, if we get a secondary DSL line, can I then split the users between the two lines and still have everyone on one firewall & switch on the LAN? thanks

The TZ170 has a "premium" software load you can get called SonicOS enhanced. It has capability for WAN failover and load balancing with this software load. Do you happen to have this? If so that should work. Reason I say should is that I'm not certain how the SonicWall will accomplish DNS etc. If you need I can download and look at the manual though.
To your last question - it would have impact on VPN's that could be "overcome". Your VPN clients could have multiple configs that they could use. Whether it's Windows L2TP/PPTP or IPSec using the SonicWall client. Other issue thoug would be default gateway settings on your internal devices. They would have to be pointed at the gateway that the VPN tunnel is coming in on. Could possibly overcome that with some static routes etc.
Overall though: In my opinion, and likely everyones, you would want a firewall of some sort on your secondary connection. If you have the Enhanced SonicOS that would be my recommendation. If you don't have enhanced - it might be worth buying. Especially for simplicity.
Just looked around the web and it looks like the upgrade is list price $500. Saw a couple of places for around $350. Around the price of a decent small office firewall.
Good luck!
