Question : Automate installation of .exe in Win2003 Domain
|
|
I need to know the quickest/easiest way to automate the installation of an application. Here are specifics:
1. Win2003 Domain 2. XP PRO clients 3. Server-based application 4. Clients connect by web-browser (http://servername/app), this launches the application. 5. When server is updated, the clients are re-directed to an "update" url (internal/from the server), and have to install update for clients as well. 6. I have the path of the clientinstaller.exe, that the update link launches; (i.e.: \\server\SHARE)
How can I "push" the .exe installer to all clients AND install with elevated priveledges (as the clients are only "Domain Users/Local Users"). The solution does not have to be "silent", or "Fully automated", meaning... as long as it automatically launches the install and allows the non-admin users to go through the install and complete it; that is all I need. I'm also pushed for time - so I haven't been able to put a lot of time in researching this, figured it would be quicker to just ask, based on my particular situation. Thank you in advance!

There is no way that I would ever accept an absolute recommendation for something like this from someone who does not intimately know my network. Only YOU can make this decision. Perhaps you should just refer to the TechNet article on this subject so you can better understand what is needed:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/f/?en/library/b238ecdb-cda5-402b-9b3d-f232045a30fa1033.mspx
And if you say that reading this article takes too much of your time, then you are in the wrong profession.
