Question : Can my employer track me?

This is probably an easy one to answer, and I'm sure the answer is yes, but if you could elaborate, I'd much appreciate.

What I want to know is:

Can my employer track my internet surfing if I'm using my laptop, but their ethernet connection?

Yup, Surf Control is another classic ... and if nothing else it will be going through ISA server, a firewall device or even just some logging on a router.

If you want to surf cleanly at work get a 3G card or sniff around for open WiFi networks ;-)

Otherwise you might be able to use an anonymous proxy server on the internet or use a SSL VPN, https://secure.logmein.com or www.hamachi.cc to connect back to a machine at home to use your own connection for browsing, then just the screen data comes over the work connection...
