Question : Network Connection Drop and Reconnect - Windows XP
Let me start by saying two Senior Network Engineers have looked at this issue so far. We have a machine that is in a home network that gets a pop up saying network disconnected and then immediately says network reconnected. The issue appears to be most prominent when surfing the internet. For troubleshooting we have replaced patch cables on both ends, replaced the NIC, pulled a new cable and tested it with a Fluke. We are fairly certain that everything outside of the machine is clean. We have scanned for viruses, malware, spyware, etc. The machine appears to be infection free based on all the software. The machine connects to a Netgear router which then connects to the internet, there is another machine connected to the Netgear with a hardwired line as well (machine 2 has no issues). We have tested multiple ports on the Netgear all with the same result on the machine in question. Does anyone have an idea what to try next? I am down to removing Symantec 360 in hopes that it is the offending application. Any ideas?
Answer : Network Connection Drop and Reconnect - Windows XP
Updating the firmware on an consumer level router will not give you any issue's.
The problem will be a handshaking issue and firmware should be the first thing you do.
