Question : Cisco Layer 2 trace
Hi,
Can anyone let me know what would stop a layer 2 traceroute working between various Cisco devices (primarily a combination of 4500 and 2960 switches). Whenever i try a trace from a 2960 (distribution layer) through a 4500 (core layer) i receive an error message "Unable to send a l2trace request to X.X.X.X. Timed out
Layer2 trace aborted."
Each 2960 is fed from two 4500s and all 4500s are redundantly connected to each other. At the time of carrying out these tests there were no network issues.

Check if ip proxy-arp is disabled on any of the transit interfaces.
