Question : SMC network. Wireless. Excellent signal strength. Adapter stops responding. Have to reset Router

I have an SMC 7004VWBR 4-port router. I also have an SMC Wireless USB adapter. They have the same specifics and work just fine for the most part. I also have another computer hardwired to the router. The hardwired connection has not given me any trouble.

I'm sharing my broadband internet connection through the router.

The wireless connection sometimes has trouble connecting to the router, but it generally shows a connection with an excellent signal strength. However, it will stop downloading web pages for a brief time, even though the signal strength remains the same. I could understand a problem like that could be due to the connection sharing, but I don't know. But I'm wanting to know if that trouble is related to the bigger problem.

The big problem I'm having with the adapter is at times it will drop the signal completely. I have tried leaving it alone to see if it will reconnect with the router on its own. But I always end up having to uplug the adapter, plug it back in, and then reset the router. Then, it works again. Could the trouble just be due to the wireless signal or is there something else that might be wrong?

Is there a way I can force the router to reset with the adapter without reseting the entire network? This is the first network I've done, so I'm not sure if these are common problems. Would it be better to just hardwire both computers? I'm about 50 feet from the room with the router.

I hope I've given enough information.

Steve
