Question : E08C007 cable modem (Virgin) and WRT610N Lynksys router no internet connection
Hello.
My friend has cable from Virgin (UK). If he connects his pc directly to the cable modem (E08C007) then he can happily surf. But when he connects to the Lynksys router (WRT610N) (has the basic settings in the router set to automatic) he can't get on to the internet. In troubleshooting I've found out the follwoing: When you plug the cable in the correct light comes on on the front of the router. Security is not enabled. An IP config on the pc shows a 192.x.x.x address. In the router status it shows an IP address of 0.0.0.0. Sounds to me as if the router is doing it's job internally but not actually seeing the cable even though the light comes on. We've reset the router to factory settings but that made no difference. He's even now plugged in an old router that used to work and that's doing the same thing.
Any ideas?
Many thanks,
Carla

Did you switch off the modem for 10 seconds or so. I don't have the same modem, but mine would only let one MAC address register with it. Switching off made it forget and allow my router to connect.
