Question : Mapping hard drive on network, not working. Password prompt

I am trying to map a hard drive on the network and it was working fine before. Both computers are XP. I am mapping via the wireless linksys router. Both computers are on the MSHOME default network.

All is going well untill I map the remote drive one the 2nd PC and it prompts: Username, Password.

This is new to me. 2nd PC does not have a password on the default user acct. I have tried Administrator with password blank, I have tried Username with password blank, I  have tried blank user and blank password.

Any ideas on what would prompt for username and password when mapping a drive on the network?

Answer : Mapping hard drive on network, not working. Password prompt

Hi stevef22,

If i remember correct you need to create and account on the remote computer with access to where you are trying to map.

Create an account for example "test" with a password of "testaccount" then try mapping the drive with those credentials.

Cheers
Dan
