Question : what is the best way to implement dyndns on a dvr system?

Hello all,

what is the best way to implement dyndns, on the router itself or via the settings on the DVR linux box?

some things i've thrown around:

when i setup the dyndns account, the IP it suggests should be my public WAN ip, and i simply have to port forward my DVR's local IP on the router?

i've tried putting the DVR within the DMZ and turned on dyndns from the DVR itself but that didn't work either.

kind regards from guam,
pete

Putting the DYNDNS in the router and port forwarding is usually the best option.

Configuring the dvr dyndns client requires it to get the wan ip in a variety of ways, usually going to an external web site like whatismyip.com. If it is dynamically updating based on its external interface, this is usually the IP address on the inside of your wan router.
