Question : Bellsouth DSL Upload speed Problems

I am using the Besllsouth DSl The speed that they promised and what it shows when i run the test is 1.5mbps for downloads and 384 kbps for uploads.

I am using westell modem 2200 and Belkin 802.11g Wireless DSL/Cable Gateway Router
and the system that i use to upload files is connected using wired lan Port and when i try to upload files i get a maximum speed of 20-25kbps for upload speed and the download is 150kbps

i tried to contact bell south tech support they said i am supposed to get maximum upload speed without any problem.

and i use port 59, 113, and 4000-4009 for mirc

what am i supposed to do to increase upload speeds.

I even tried using FTP and the upload speed is 20kbps even for ftp

Any suggestions would really be appreciated

Answer : Bellsouth DSL Upload speed Problems

I have BellSouth and was never promised 384 up with a 1500 download option.  They do have a plan that offers 384 up.  But, that's with the 3Mbps downstream speed.

The plan I have is called Ultra:  1.5Mbps down, 256kbps up.  That's it.

The Extreme plan is 3Mbps down with 384Kbps up.  I just tried that this week and my connection is too far away from their equipment to get a good enough signal to sustain it.  I went back to the Ultra plan (1.5Mbps dn, 256kbps up).

Taking into account the overhead associated with different layers (like TCP, PPPoE,etc.), the best I've had under the Ultra plan in the speed tests is 1219 kbps down and 219kbps up.  If you can get somewhere around that, you have nirvana for the Ultra plan under BellSouth.

If you are within 8,000 feet (or 12,000 feet depending who you talk with) of their equipment, you chould qualify for their faster Extreme package of the 3Mbps dn, 384kbps up.  I sure hoped I was getting it.

In the next 12-18 months, they are loosely promising 6Mbps dn, 768kbps up.  I'll believe it when I see it.  At least they're thinking (albeit slowly) in the right direction.
